Clan Giovanni

Clan Giovanni has a strong grip upon the city of Lussuria. As one of the two founding powers of Lussuria, they have had over a hundred years to establish their power, and privilege. Lussuria is one of the new free cities on the East coast of the United States - a fact the Giovanni are all too aware of. The clan Giovanni has vigorously defended the city against all outsiders, though they begrudgeling accept the Setite presence.

Like in any other city, The Giovanni of Lussuria have a strong connection to each other. There is a community have, and most Giovanni share havens with another, or have havens near the main Giovanni estate. The Giovanni family is a tight knit community that IS a family. While the Giovanni might fight amongst themselves, pity the outsider who gets between the quarrels.

When playing a Giovanni, the feeling is often like that of a whore. Everyone casts the clan in a bad light but privately they still seek the Clan's services for magical favors, raw capital, influence and even the occasional spy. In a buyer’s market the Giovanni can cash in a variety of chips. Keep this always in mind when playing & running Giovanni.

In General:

Giovanni are very typically creepy, weird, or off-center. Whether from Clan legends or just a funny vibe, most people clearly get the impression that it would be very bad for their fragile humanities to glimpse what the upstanding family does behind closed doors. Giovanni hail from strong ethnic cultures--very often the line between their mortal origins and their kindred lives blur. Whether the traditional Italian or one of the offshoot families named in the Clanbooks, all Giovanni hail from strong family bases in clear (and foreign) culture bases.

Giovanni have strong family loyalties. Giovanni are very Clan-oriented. The Family has always had zero tolerance toward Necromancers who are not of the family. Necromancy is never taught outside the Family for any reason!

Needless to say, Giovanni traitors do not last long.

Giovanni Embrace only those from their own mortal family lines. Giovanni are members of chosen elite. They were bred and trained since birth to carry on the honor of the Family Giovanni. As such, Family members refrain from random, promiscuous relationships and sire their mortal descendants with the honor or the Family in mind. In all things, the Clan comes first.

GIOVANNI FAMILIES

This is a listing of the major, and minor families found within Clan Giovanni. Information was pulled from both 1st and 2nd edition Clan Giovanni books and Mediums: Speakers with the Dead. When possible, we prefer to use revised book resources.

Giovanni: The main family. Formed by Augustus as a massive merchant family who made their mark on the world by being war profiteers from the Crusades. Being masters of necromancy certainly helped matters.

Pisanob: Descendants of Aztec and Mayan priests from Mesoamerica. Their power base lie in the badlands of Mexico and South America.

Hidalgo: Another branch of the family that originated within Mexico. Rumored to be wiped out by the Sabbat as contact with them has been broken

Rosselini: From a similar Roman decent as the Giovanni. Also accomplished necromancers who typically exert force even when force isn't necessary to control their wraithly servants. Considered near equal to the main family.

Milliners: A family of bankers bar none. The head of the Milliners has a hard on for destroying the JFKs. While not interested in necromancy, they excel at what they do best and that's finance. The Milliners are a big reason the Giovanni have Boston to this day.

della Passaglia: Another family of traders who were rumored to have been connected to the great Marco Polo himself. They now serve as the Giovanni connection to Asian thanotolgy and their prime asian mercantile business men.

Ghiberti: A branch of the family from Africa and responsible for involving the Giovanni in the United States, West Africa, and West Indies trade triangle. Also responsible for inventing the Cenotaph path of necromancy.

Dunsirn: A Scottish branch of the Giovanni. Savvy bankers with a nasty fetish for cannabalism.

Putanesca: Sicilian thugs with a temper that puts the Brujah to shame. Every clan has to have their guys to do the dirty work, and the Giovanni have the Putanesca

St John: Cabal of English Masons

Beryn: Flemish traders with inroads into Africa similar to the Ghiberti

Rothstein: Jewish-American Kabbalists who seem to be centered in Las Vegas

Li Weng: Chinese geomancers based out of San Francisco's Chinatown

Koenig: These German death cultists may have never come to the attention of the Giovanni had it not been for World War II when the Giovanni saw an entire nation rise up under a dark leader. His band of cultists had the sickest and most twisted ideas of death that the Family had seen since the induction of the Rosselini. They are also German arms manufacturers. I wouldn't try putting a Koenig and a Rothstein in the same room, it normally resolves in the death of both parties!

EXTRA GIOVANNI BACKGROUNDS

Backgrounds with an asterisk (*) next to them are taken from the World of Darkness: Mafia book.

*Family Status (Mob)

This denotes your standing in La Cosa Nostra. This has nothing to do with Giovanni Clan or Family status.

  1. * Piciotto: Low ranking soldier.

  2. ** Sgarrista: You're a wiseguy or respected family man.

  3. *** Caporegime: Lieutenant or Crew Leader

  4. **** Capo Bastone: An underboss or 2nd in command.

  5. ***** Capo: Don or one of the infamous mob bosses.

*Favors (Mob)

These favors come from one or more individuals who actually owe the charactersomething, thus distinguishing them from allies or contacts. STs should keep track of favors. Once they are spent, they are gone. The ST determines what each Favor can accomplish.

  1. * One favor.

  2. ** Two Favors.

  3. *** Four Favors.

  4. **** Seven Favors.

  5. ***** Ten Favors.

Family Ties (New)

The secret strength of the Giovanni is the connection to the family itself. The paid lackeys are reluctant servants that riddle the business and influences of other Clans pale in comparison to the loyalty and drive that exists within the larger Family that aid the Clan’s efforts. This background represents several of those dedicated kin who work with you to grow and maintain the family affairs. Though their understanding of the true nature of the Clan is limited, often believe it a family corporation or a nepotistic “old boy’s” network, their drive and loyalty provide agility and endurance not found in most employees. In an influence jihad’s system, these should be represented as action traits for growth, attack, and investigation for any activities chosen.

  1. * One family member in your employ

  2. ** Two family members in your employ

  3. *** Three family members in your employ

  4. **** Ten family members in your employ

  5. ***** Fifteen family members in your employ

*Wraith Reputation

Your character has made a favorable impression on the local inhabitants of the lands of the dead. Perhaps he uses the soft approach when dealing with wraiths, making deals rather then commanding their obedience. Maybe he helps them out with their troubles out of genuine concern. Regardless, he has a good name and the dead tend to react favorably to him. Each level represents phantom status on a social level with local ghosts. It does not give your character any biddable traits. Being seen as someone the dead can call on all the time for help isn’t all wine and roses. "I'm Henry the 8th I am..."

  1. * A few of the local spooks know you are good for a favor or two.

  2. ** Your name gets passed around at a few of the local Haunts. Some gossip may find its way to you.

  3. *** The dead come to you often to seek your assistance; you get a lot of info from the locals.

  4. **** Specters know better then to mess with your friends. You guard your flock jealously and they appreciate your patronage.

  5. ***** You’re something of a local name. You've probably set up a few Memorials to keep some of the locals warm. When in trouble they will bail you out.

STATS

  • Background Spirit Slaves - max starting at 2. Typically a PC is a fairly young kindred who should not have a powerful assortment of wraith slaves.

  • Ghiberti Necromancy is not allowed on PL. It a rare African path that would not have a mentor in the PL city setting.

  • Pisanob Necromancy is not allowed on PL. This rare Aztec path does not have a mentor in the city setting. Certain low level rituals of this path are allowed, as rituals are easier and faster to teach than the actual path itself.

---------------

NOTES

  • ALL Giovanni vampires start on the Sepulchre path of Necromancy (per the books).

  • Until a Giovanni learns the first 3 steps of the Sepulchre path of Necromancy, they can not learn any other Necromancy paths (per the books).

  • Giovanni characters are expected to be active and INVOLVED in the rest of the Giovanni game - this clan is about cooperative work. If you are more interested in playing a "loner" try a gangrel.

  • Members of the specific Giovanni family are held to the highest of standards above all other families. Of all the families for a Pc to come from, the Giovanni family is the most uptight, privileged, rewarding, and rigid. There are clearly defined behaviors expected of Giovanni members per the books - your Giovanni should follow those rules so that they might enjoy the most privilege. Failure is tolerated the LEAST from Giovanni family members.

  • Blood bonds outside of the family are NOT tolerated - the Giovanni clan views blood bonds negatively. A blood bond outside the family is a direct threat to their well being.
